Save Australia For Christ - Who, What and Why
Dear Men and Women of God,
Tonight, I was blessed by the following from Col Stringer’s ‘Discovering Australia’s Christian Herritage’:
Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quiros (1606)
Pedro de Quiros spoke these faith-filled words over our land – The South Land of the Holy Spirit: “Let the heavens, the earth, the waters with all their creatures and all those here present witness that I, Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quiros… in the name of Jesus Christ… hoist this emblem of the Holy Cross on which His (Jesus Christ’s) person was crucified and whereon He gave His life for the ransom and remedy of all the human race… on this Day of Pentecost, 14th May 1606… I take possession of all this part of the South as far as the pole in the name of Jesus… Which from now on shall be called the Southern land of the Holy Ghost… and this always and forever… and to the end that to all natives, in all the said lands, the holy and sacred evangel may be preached zealously and openly” (de Looper M).
Friends, I would also like to reiterate the words of Australia’s first preacher Rev. Richard Johnson, that “From the very beginning, God’s sovereign purpose has been clear. There is a destiny for this nation.”
We may not fully understand what that destiny is yet, we may not feel ready to embrace our call, but as we “Trust in the Lord with all of [our] heart and lean not on [our] own understanding, in all [our] ways acknowledgeing him, and he will make [our] paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5, 6 NIV) we can be guaranteed that he will reveal his will and call on this nation, and our own lives. I believe that beyond all that we could ever imagine or comprehend, such are his plans for this nation.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8 ESV)
For those of us who call ourselves Australians, is this not our mission field? Are we not called to go out to the ends of the earth, even Australia? Are we not called to be neighbors in our streets, in our cities, and all across this planet we call home? We have been called to preach the Good news, making “disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matt 28:19) A sign above the exit of my local church here in Townsville reads as follows; “You are now entering your Mission Field.” Psalm 139:16 indicates that God has a distinct, divine purpose current situation. He declares that he has a plan and purpose for your life, that you have been placed in your position for a time such as this. Have you made it your mission field?
Men and Women of God, Australians, is not our home city Jerusalem, our states and nation Judea and Samaria, are we not the witnesses appointed to this nation. Our mission is clear; it has been the same for hundreds of years. Save our Nation.
Since the declaration of this land for Christ (Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quiros) in 1606 seeds of the Gospel have been planted, in places they have been watered, and some have been harvested, but there is still much work to be done. We cannot deny our past has been built on the faith of many of our forefathers, but what do we long to see this nation built on in the future? Democracy; Economy; Military might; or the Word of God.
As individuals, I would like to challenge you; what are YOU doing about the salvation of this nation? Have you made yourself available, available to be a vessel through which the Holy Spirit may move freely to bring salvation to this land? Are you ready, prepared, and willing to see great revival in this land?
If not, I would encourage you to seek the Lord with all your heart in regards to His plan for you, and the role which he wants you to take in order that you might impact this nation for Him.

At Save Australia For Christ, we believe that we have been built on a ‘Daniel Generation’ of youth who are willing to stand in the gap with priestly prayer, but also to issue forth the kingly prayers of “Thy will be done”(Matt 6:10) here in Australia. A group of believers who want to see the lives of their family, friends, and fellow human beings absolutely changed and rearranged by the power of the Holy Spirit and the redemption which comes from the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus.
We are committed to the prayer and intercession for our nation of Australia, and ultimately its salvation in Christ Jesus. We want to stand united in prayer for the local churches, the body of Christ throughout the nation, declaring the word of the Lord, and preparing to reap the ‘soul harvest’.
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I would like to encourage you to offer up your prayers to “our father who art in heaven”, and to cry out for the salvation of Australia. In conjunction to this, take action, and reach out to our nation with the grace and love which was offered to us by our Lord. I pray that you would seek the role which our Lord would have you play in the salvation of this ‘Southland of the Holy Spirit’.
